Just a little something that I grabbed off of the internet about my man Malcolm X, also known as El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz! Special Safehaven215 Shoutout to infed.org for this tight article on Malcolm X and his "homemade" or self-education!

Homemade education

Malcolm became a letter writer and as a result he says that he “stumbled upon starting to acquire some kind of homemade education”. He became extremely frustrated at not being able to express what he wanted to convey in letters that he wrote. He says that “in the street I had been the most articulate hustler out there … But now, trying to write simple English, I not only wasn’t articulate, I wasn’t even functional”. His ability to read books was severely hampered. “Every book I picked up had few sentences which didn’t contain anywhere from one to nearly all of the words that might have been in Chinese”. He skipped the words he didn’t know and so had little idea of what the books said.

He got himself a dictionary and began painstakingly copying every entry. It took him a day to do the first page. He would copy it all out and then read back aloud what he had written. He began to remember the words and what they meant. He was fascinated with the knowledge that he was gaining. He finished the A’s and went on to the B’s. Over a period of time he finished copying out the whole dictionary. Malcolm regarded the dictionary as a miniature encyclopedia. He learned about people and animals, about places and history, philosophy and science. As his word base broadened, he found that he could pick up a book “and now begin to understand what the book was saying”. He says that “from then until I left that prison, in every free moment I had, if I was not reading in the library, I was reading in my bunk. You couldn’t have gotten me out of a book with a wedge”.

He preferred to read in his cell but one of the problems he had was that at 10 o’clock each night when ‘lights out’ was called he found that it always seemed to coincide with him in the middle of something engrossing. Fortunately, there was a light on the landing outside his particular cell and once his eyes got accustomed to the glow, he was able to sit on the floor by the cell door and continue his reading. He found that the guards would come around once every hour so that when he heard their footsteps approaching, he would rush back to his bunk until they had gone past and pretend to be asleep. As soon as they had gone, he would be back by the door reading. This would continue until three or four every morning. He says that “three or four hours of sleep a night was enough for me. Often in the years in the streets I had slept less than that”.

Malcolm read and read and read. He devoured books on history and was astounded at the knowledge he obtained about the history of black civilizations throughout the world. He read books by Gandhi on the struggle in India, he read about African colonization and China’s Opium Wars. He found within the library’s collection some bound pamphlets of the Abolitionist Anti-Slavery Society and was able to read for himself descriptions of atrocities committed against the slaves and of the degradations suffered by his forbears. “I never will forget how shocked I was when I began reading about slavery’s total horror … Book after book showed me how the white man had brought upon the world’s black, brown, red and yellow peoples every variety of the sufferings of exploitation”. His reading was not limited to history, however. He read about genetics and philosophy. He read about religion.He relates that “ten guards and the warden couldn’t have torn me out of those books … I have often reflected upon the new vistas that reading opened to me. I knew right there in prison that reading had changed forever the course of my life”.

Since Barack Obama is our new President it is very important that we listen closely to bills that will be passed, plans for the economic crisis, and decisions made about our troops who are away at war. This "AYO" image is a way that Safehaven215 can show you that Barack Obama is talking about something that you should be listening to. My first "AYO" post on Barack Obama is just the video today in Virginia. Barack basically made everyone aware of how serious this economic crisis is. He made it very clear of what and will not be tolerated in the next four years, and most importantly he talked about how the decisions that will be made are in the best interest of the American people. The speech was scheduled today at 11:00am, but you can catch it again on CNN at 2:00pm; they are replaying it for anyone who missed it. The Spook Who Sat by the Door was originally a novel written by Sam Greenlee about the civil rights struggle in the United States in the late 1960s. The movie takes a look at black militancy, and how knowledge is something that knowone can take from you. Dan Freeman become the first African American to be accepted into the CIA. Since Freeman was forced to work behind the desk because he was black he quickly resigned. Upon his return to his hometown is Chicago, he immediately began recruiting young black men who lived in Chicago to become Freedom Fighters. He began to teach them guerrilla warfare tactics, weaponry, communications and subversion. This is a crazy movie that I'm sure you'll love. When the levees were broken from Hurricane Katrina in 2005 there was a town called Algiers Point that underwent tragic occurences . A militia of about 15 to 30 men and women took it upon themselves to use pick up trucks, shotguns, and family dogs to patrol the neighborhood. The militia targeted people who they thought were theives, outlaws, or as one member of the militia put it, "anyone who didn't belong". They blocked main roads that led into the town with trees that were pulled straight out of the ground from the storm. One member of the militia describes it as, "great." He continued saying, "It was like pheasant season in South Dakota. If it moved, you shot it." I'm sure you're thinking to yourself; how can something like this happen, but it did, and the scary part is that people actually enjoyed this horrific time at Algiers Point. Check out this film "Reefer Madness", it was a film created back in 1936. It was a film that talks about marijuana use, and the events that follow when high school students are lured into the tempataion of smoking marijuana. It talks about things that may happen, but are debated as highly unrealistic actions such as manslaughter, suicide, and rape. The film was directed by Louis Gasnier and had a cast of nobodies! The film was used back in the day for parents as a morality tale to teach them about the dangers of smoking marijuana. A perfect example of some propaganda for ya! If you are outside at all today...LOOK UP AND LOOK FOR THE MOON! What may look like two bright stars behind the moon are actually planets. Yup...Tonight Monday December 1, 2008 Jupiter and Venus will aline with the moon tonight to form a spectacular sight. Tonight, from the naked eye the celestial objects will be as close as we'll ever see them until 2052! You shouldn't be scared or anything; it's just an illusion of perspective. The moon is still 251,400 miles away.Venus is 93.2 million miles away, and Jupiter isn't remotely close to us at 540.3 million miles away! For those of you who will unfortunately miss the extravaganza tonight... I'll take pictures, and post them later on tonight. Gotta get back to class!

What’s Good world. I recently picked up the newest issue of complex mag, and to my surprise Jim Jones was gracing the cover. The interview isn’t too bad as it lets you know Jim Jones latest entrepreneurial ventures, which are many! A 50/50 joint Venture with Columbia which included Koch handling marketing and promotions; not to mention a comedy division with Mike Epps, and a Broadway play. My man Jim is really making moves. On the music side of things he still isn’t the hottest rapper out there but, he recently released his own Swagger Like Us featuring Lil Wayne and Twista (Not So Great). Ruining bangers such as Kid Cudi’s "Day N Nite" and MGMT’s banger "Electric Feel" definately didn't help Jimmy either...As far as the interview is concerned he breaks down beefs with Max B and once again speaks on Cam’Ron:

Complex: He [Cam’Ron] finally came out and said that he couldn’t rock with you because you appeared on stage with 50, kind of questioning your loyalty.

Jim Jones: He’s questioning my loyalty? He was questioning himself. At that point in time when I did [appear on stage with 50], I was doing all business. I was doing what was best for Jimmy, what was best for my career. It was in my best interest to do publicity stunts and get hype. He was nowhere to be found, so who is he to be questioning what I was doing? He couldn’t do that from the get-go because I helped start all this. What went on between him and 50 was a mockery—that was dudes making jokes. That was a YouTube snap battle. It was nothing remotely physical about that battle. I can’t indulge in fun and jokes that’s like wrestling.

Homeboy just doesn’t seem the same since the split musically. It seems real similar to the Roc-a-fella split, and it's even more ironic that Dame is helping out. I’m not a hater or anything like that but, I personally don’t feel the music coming from Jim Jones, Byrdgang, Juelz Santana, or Skullgang. The best statement to describe it is “to each his own”. So I've been noticing that rotoscoping has been playing a huge role in the animation game. I'm sure you're wondering what rotoscoping is, and why am I talking about it! Rotoscoping is a type of animation that started way back in 1914 by a guy named Max Fleischer. He gave birth to the cartoon greats like Betty Boop, Popeye, and Superman. Why start using rotoscoping again in 2008? Basically, back in the day they only used rotoscoping to smooth the transition from a sheet of paper to the big screen. Rotoscoping slows down that transition so that the picture is distorted a little, but the sequence continues to run smooth! It's sounds crazy complicated, but the process is pretty simple. The best example of rotoscoping at the current moment is that video directed by Hype Williams for Kanye West (Heartless). Check it out below... the video is amazing and it represents rotoscope animation very...very well.

Fresh out of sociology class, and my professor blessed us with this film called "Reel Bad Arabs" featuring Dr. Jack Shaheen. Dr. Jack Shaheen wrote the book "Reel Bad Arabs" which I am going to grab very soon. Basically the film shows how the silverscreen constantly portrays Arabs and Palestinians as villians, theives, rapest, terrorist, and anything else that can represent evil in some way. I'm sorry, I had to grab the laptop asap when I heard this man (John McCain) say, "We are a much safer nation now, but a long way from safe"! What the hell....does that....mean! This year in my philosophy class we are talking about vague claims, and man is this a perfect example. A vague claim is a claim that lacks sufficient precision to convey the information appropriate to its use. For example, the proper use of John McCain's claim would have been to explain how we are as a nation in terms of security compared to 9/11. When you say something like, "We are a much safer nation now, but a long way from safe" is not what we call sufficient precision to make a point. This dude is a clown! Goodnight yall!

After watching this six part series of "Prison Scarfaces" I feel like I took a tour inside of the penitentiary, and spoke to all those inmates. I don't know.... it cracks me up when I hear or see attempts to acknowledge some of the true crime that really goes on in this world. You know when Kanye came out with that "Diamonds are Forever" song, and everybody got enlightened about BLOOD DIAMONDS. Converted diamonds, conflict diamonds, hot diamonds, war diamonds, whatever you want to call them people die everyday because countries, including this great one LOL worship them. You hear these slogans like "Every Kiss Begins With K", and you totally forget about mothers who will never be able to kiss their sons, and fathers who will never hold their daughters again because they have to go get American rappers some ICE. I mean when the movie Blood Diamonds came out everybody put their chains up for a couple weeks, but do you think those kids in Angola, the Congo, and Sierre Leone stopped working! Honestly, the ones to blame are us because we praise those you have the jewelry,Ice, and Bling Bling. I'm not mad at you if that's how you get down, I just respect you more if you just acted like you didn't know what was really going on! Im just sayin...

Going through one of my textbooks from the previous semester, I thought that I should talk about the Black Codes of 1865. Throughout all the confusion and reconstruction that the South was going through after the Civil War they still stayed focused when it came to controlling blacks. Black Codes controlled all aspects of life and basically denied African Americans all of the freedoms that were just won. For example, if you couldn't find any work (which was very common) you could be arrested and charged with vagrancy. For those who do not know what vagrancy is, it is the state of wandering from place to place; having no permanent home or means of livelihood. It gets even more ridicuolous though. For some reason, white southerners thought that African Americans were predestined to work in agricultural labor. Not only did it not come to their minds that you wouldn't want to work in the fields, but they didn't even feel that we were capable to show productivity in anything that didn't involve simple steps, and long hours of grueling labor. The thought of a black man or woman using their minds obviously never crossed theirs. How sad it is when someone doesn't even have the freedom to roam. Yup, many codes prevented blacks to enter towns without permission. Basically, you had to have a letter stating your business in that particualar town, and how long you would be there. If you were caught out after 10 o'clock without one of these notes you would be arrested and imprisoned. Oh yeah, the President in 1865 was Abraham Lincoln, you know that guy with the top hat that everyone loves!

So, I'm reading a very good book now passed on to me by my brother called, Lies My Teacher Told Me. It's very interesting because it focuses on the topic of how a lot of the things that our history textbooks have taught us since grade school have either been complete lies, or a bunch of half truths. I would be here forever telling you some things about this country that you just wouldn't believe, but my post today will simply focus on how textbooks can be used as a source of propaganda to make you feel a certain way about people, lifestyles, and cultures. I use the word propaganda because of its definition. Propaganda is information that is spread for the purpose of promoting some cause! My question to you is simply, what's the cause? On page 113 of the book in the chapter titled Red Eyes the author quotes a commonly used history textbook called The American Way ( You can get a feel for the type of propaganda I'm talking about just by the title.) In this chapter the textbook makes Native American religion seem ridiculous and pointless. It goes a little something like this...

"These Native Americans [in the Southeast] believed that nature was filled with spirits. Each form of life, such as plants and animals, had a spirit. Earth and air held spirits too. People were never alone. They shared their lives with the spirits of nature."

The author brings up a good point that when you explain anything in this context it doesn't seem sophisticated, and it almost sounds make believe. Then the author flips the script and describes Christianity in a similiar summary. It goes a little something like this...

"These Americans believed that one great male god ruled the world. Sometimes they divided him into three parts, which they called father, son, and holy ghost. They ate crackers and wine or grape juice, believing that they were eating the son's body and drinking his blood. If they believed strongly enough, they would live on forever after they died."

When you put it this way, Christianity almost sounds like a joke. When you insert words like crackers, juice, and you don't capitilize words like god and father it doesn't have the same effect. I'm not knocking anyones religion, I'm just sayin...

So I was watching that movie National Treasure 2 last night, and I was surprised to find out that there isn't just one Statue of Liberty, but infact there are three. Where the French playin us? Did America really think that she was special! Ok, so everyone knows about the Statue of Liberty on Ellis Island in New York, but did you know about her two sisters in Paris. One of the twins are located in Luxembourg Garden, and the oldest of the bunch is located on the River Seine which is also in Paris. The brown paper bag test was a ritual that was once used by black fraternities and sororities and other organizations to determine social ordering based on skin color. Basically it went something like this. Anyone whose skin was darker than a brown paper bag was ineligible to join. I'm sure you're wondering why... why would African Americans use this form of oppression at all, let alone on their own people. The reason that Frantz Fanon (psychologist) came up with is that members of an oppressed group will frequently internalize the attitudes of their oppressors and then direct that aggression at each other. Don't you find it a little strange that some sororities and fraternities have a majority a members that are light skin, and others that have a majority of members with a darker complexion. I'm not trying to bash black sororities and fraternities, I'm just sayin....

Alright, so the word Mentor came from the Greek character Mentor. Odysseus, father of Telemachus told Mentor to watch after his son while he was gone. Mentor's main purpose as a teacher was to introduce Odysseus's son Telemachus to homosexuality. I mean that's just foul! Lol So if somebody out there is calling you his or her mentor, just say, "Uh.... teacher will do.... yeah, your teacher will do just fine!" There are two major reasons why society is always concerned with today's crime rate. The first reason is to maintain order in the world we live in. The second reason is simple. For a crime to be committed there must be a criminal and a victim. We the people are the potential victims that these criminal acts will be carried upon. Though these are two legitimate reasons why we should always be concerned with crime; crime also directs attention away from more threatening crimes that have ultimately put this country in the position that it is in today. For some reason this smoke screen of street crime has brainwashed all of us forcing us to think that this is our greatest criminal danger. The most common definition of the word crime is quite simple-the breaking of a law- this broad definition does not and cannot label all of those who have committed a crime. What this does is allow those who have power to chose what is a crime and what is not! It is in our human nature to in no way give ourselves a disadvantage no matter what the situation may be. My point is that those with power will make the rules (laws) so that they will conveniently lie in their favor. We (those who are not in power) must suffer because most things that we need to survive have been engulfed in penalties, licenses, fees, and taxes preventing us to live our lives. Now we are forced to violate these laws because we are trapped by these rules, and have no other choice. Those in power say, "Why do they behave that way!" "They are heathens!" "They act like animals!" Why? The reason they say this is because they don't live our lives! There is not a complete absence, but a huge difference of struggle in their lives compared to ours. They simply have not been forced in certain positions......yet! That's besides the point though. The point is that if we did not commit these small crimes, what would distract us from seeing exactly what was really going on! Why is gas about to hit five dollars a gallon? Why is it that we are still in Iraq? I'm curious, I'm sure you are too, but they can't tell us the reason why because they are too busy telling us about Jerome and Chris Jenkins who robbed a liquor store for three hundred dollars! Not telling you that Jerome and Chris just got laid off, and have to pay child support or they're going to jail! I'm not trying to justify anything I'm just saying that there are two sides to every story, and finally I'm ready to hear the other side for once.

This opening topic will be on Racial and Ethnic Inequality! The terms majority and minority simply show that there are power differences. Those holding power in our society today are the majority group. The majority group establishes a system of inequality by dominating less-powerful groups! (the minority) I'm curious to hear whether or not if you ever truly feel the power or lack of power of being either part of the majority group or the minority group! Whether its in school, work, just out in public, or whatever. I am also curious to hear if it slowly takes a toll on you personally, and how do you react. I guess how you react is more on the psychological part of it, but still I'm curious to get an idea of how you deal with it. I hope that this can be the beginning of a good thing!

Food Deserts

A food desert is an urban area with little to no access to foods needed to maintain a healthy diet! What replaces these healthy foods are a plethora of Chinese stores, McDonald's, KFC's, and numerous other pizza stores. Everyday you may see your brother, sister, son, or daughter sit and have a meal from one of these fast food restaurants at least three to four times a week! Why is it that the dinner time has slowly been taken away from inner city families. I think that it has to do with the lack of family values, parenting, and access to healthy food in large quantities. Four wings, french fries, and a 2 liter soda for $4.50 is hard for a supermarket to beat, especially when inner city mother's are trying to raise two to three kids. Like I said there are a lot of reasons why things have gotten so bad, but the first step is always knowledge of the situation at hand. This lack of access to healthier food has been broken down into three different ways; financial access, physical access, and food knowledge. One of the main reasons people eat the way they eat in the city is because its convenient money wise. You can get a lot more for your buck at your neighborhood corner store. People also may not have the physical access to reach good supermarkets, produce stores, etc. These stores may be too far from where you live, the shopper may be elderly or infirm, the area is hilly, public transportation links may be poor, and also we the buyers may not have a car. Lastly a large majority of people simply do not think that eating healthy is important. When you think about it, its really sad because a lot of people are trapped in these food deserts and don't even know about it! Like I said earlier, you have to have knowledge of the situation first before you can make any kind of change. Take care of your bodies yall!

Maria Bartiromo anchor of CNBC's "Closing Bell with Maria Bartiromo" just recently showed which side she is going to take in this years upcoming election! She recently was quoted in a magazine discussing the "lives of Manhattan's affluent and socially powerful." Maria Bartiromo warns readers that under Senator Barack Obama that "income tax is... in for a bump. Right now income tax is 35 percent, Obama wants to take that to 39 percent…We’re talking about people who make over $200,000. That’s not rich. So it’s actually going to impact more people than you may think." OK with the economy the way it is today $200, 000 may not make you rich, but it definitely means you are living pretty comfortable! ThinkProgress brought up a very good point when they said that the McCain campaign has a bad perception of what average Americans really make in this country! According to the 2006 census, if you had an income of $174,012 you were in the top five percent of income earners! What Maria Bartiromo didn't mention is that she makes a seven figure salary, and just got another $500,000 for the book she just released titled Use The News. The simplest way I can put it is, if your income or your parents income is anywhere under $100,000 vote for Barack Obama because if you don't this nation will not be the place to be for people like you and me!

This really strange video filmed in the Hasa Province, East of Saudi Arabia shows a continuous explosion of sand erupting approximately nine meters into the sky. Scientists still have no explanation on what may have caused this sudden eruption in the desert. I did a little experiment yesterday (May 19,2008) on Malcolm Little's, Malcolm X's, or El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz's birthday. The changes in his name recognizes the changes throughout this great man's life. Throughout the entire day I found his birthday being recognized on 4 television channels briefly, a surprising 17 web pages, and 8 discussions while listening to talk radio. I guess that is the deserved amount of air time for this guy! (Catch my sarcasm!) TV Turnoff week from Yahoo.com says that the average household in America watches a mouth dropping 7 hours and 40 minutes a day, and 150,000 hours in a lifetime! Get this, American's also clock a phenomenal 4 hours and 35 minutes a day on "---tube" alone! With the common book obviously taking the back seat, we have allowed the media to filter exactly what our mind registers. What this does is slowly but surely eliminate great heroes such as Malcolm X. Pedestrian215 has been holdin philly down for a year and a half now, and they aren’t showing any signs of slowing down. Located on the infamous “South Street”, Pedestrian is a store that collides fashion, art, and culture together which has allowed them to separate themselves from the competition. I have witnessed for myself first hand the diversity of people, style, and personality that has completely engulfed the store. Pedestrian not only attracts customers, but just random passersby who are drawn in by the contagious vibes that spill onto South Street. My homie Andrew, Creative Director of Pedestrian has been kind enough to answer some questions so we can see what makes Pedestrian a movement rather than a store.

So when you initially opened up Pedestrian what goals were you hoping to achieve? Have you fulfilled those goals?

When we were planning the opening of the shop, we knew we wanted to have our own in house line and to also create an environment where cats could come down and enjoy being in the shop. We had been in several shops and pulled things from each one to create a formula we thought would work the best for us.I feel that we have definitely completed some of those goals, but their is always room for improvement and we are workin on that right now!

Even though you have some brands that other stores carry, you guys also step away from the crowd by carrying items that people would say are more underground. Why is this?

Up and coming brands are the ones who push this culture, without these brands the market would die. Everyone has to start somewhere and there are some kids out there with talent and great ideas. You never know who's gonna blow up, but sometimes it's cool to watch it happen, and know that you were on it first.

Tell us about the personality of the store that not only your customers bring, but you yourself and your close friends bring as well.

Most of the kids who come in are diverse and so is our vibe. We can get down with anyone and feel comfortable doing so. We feel it is weak when people act like they are "too cool"! What is the point of being that way and tryin to sell "exclusive" items?... It doesn't make sense! The PEDX family is mad chill and easy going, you walk in and are treated like you should be!

Looking back on the year and a half that the store has been open, would you trade its location for another city other than Philadelphia!

Easiest question you have asked, NOT AT ALL. We are from near Harrisburg and we knew this was the place., we considered Pittsburgh or Harrisburg, but we wanted to be in a city that is more into this culture. So Philly was a no brainer… Although we have recently expanded to Baltimore, MD and plan on opening future locations.

There are rumors on a new location for Pedestrian in Philly! Can you give me as well as the many other people apart of this Pedestrian movement any feedback on that?

My post earlier in April touched base on the price of oil, and how it continues to increase daily. I'm sure this father and daughter are doing nothing other than enjoying a beautiful day in the neighborhood, but this picture of them passing a gas station with prices reaching a phenomenal $4.33 a gallon is quite frightening. If you eliminate the little girl off of the bike with her pink basket and teddy bear you will find yourself looking at a scary image. A report by Goldman Sachs Group Inc. states that oil prices will reach $150 to $200 dollars a barrel within two years. With the price of oil today at $126 per barrel, they seem right on track. Pretty soon this country will reach the point where middle class living standards will be "unsustainable" as Paul Watson puts it in his article for Prison Planet. Banksy is a well known graffiti artist in London. I think Banksy is the most famous artist that until this day chooses to remain anonymous. You can count on his work being on public property relating to the topics of politics, culture, and ethics. He has a distinct stenciling style that is superior to anything that I have ever seen. Banksy found that stenciling allowed him to create masterpieces in a convenient (worrying about police) amount of time. His stencils feature crazy images usually accompanied with a slogan. The slogan is usually anti-war, anti-capitalist, and down right hysterical. Most of his subjects include animals (monkeys and rats), policemen, soldiers, children, and the elderly. Some call Banksy's work pure vandalism, but I call it pure genius.

KRS-ONE Vs. Sean Hannity

Today I watched several debates on Sean Hannity versus people who have voiced there opinion on variety of different topics. What I noticed was many of his opponents tried to use facts to win in the debate. I have come to the conclusion that facts is Sean Hannity's specialty; you can not win a debate with Sean Hannity with the idea that you have done more research. What you can do is speak about topics in which the evidence is so strong that he cannot help but to move on to another topic where he can try to destroy you morally. Once he has gotten you in this position where viewers (America) will view you as morally incorrect, this is where you have been defeated. I noticed that of all people, KRS-One was the most productive in getting his point across. He did not talk about slavery, George Bush, or any other aspect of our struggle in which off hand, one is not fully prepared to go tit for tat with Sean Hannity. I was proud to see KRS-One, the last person who I thought would have any type of chance debating with Sean Hannity, do so well. Hope you like the video, it's blurry, but by no surprise this great debate was the only one of its kind on YouTube. For some reason, no one recorded this debate that Sean Hannity loss. (Catch my sarcasm!)

Rising Down

Tomorrow (April 29, 2008) Rising Down starring The Roots will hit stores. I am really excited about this CD not only because of The Roots but because it has a lot of my favorite artist featuring on the album. We got Common, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Styles P, and Chrisette Michele! Yeah this album should be crazy, so make sure you check it out.

History Lesson

The album cover was inspired by Norman E. Jennette. This picture was originally a cartoon illustrated and published in the Raleigh News And Observer. The drawing was called Negro Rule. It portrayed how the Confederate Union felt about freed slaves. They believed that if freed blacks obtained power it would only lead to complete chaos for the entire country. It doesn't surprise me that The Roots would be the one group that have some type of meaning to their album cover!

With his long intensive process for each painting, it is not hard to see the intricate detail that goes into each work of art. "It's all in the eyes", Ben Tour says in his interview with Matthew Newton and Juxtapoz Magazine. You can't help but be hypnotized by the large pupils, long eyelashes, and the talking eyebrows that tell a story of their own. Piece of Mind

I'm curious to see the first movie that I know of, that portrays the world of graffiti. Piece of Mind (yes I meant piece) is a documentary capturing two years in the life of four LA native graffiti artists. The documentary filmed by Evan Romoff and Keegan Gibbs captures what it is like to make a name for yourself in this competitive culture. With the use of two cameras (16mm and a Super 8mm) and several video formats, the raw uncut feel is definitely there. The release date for the DVD was just this previous Sunday (April 20, 2008.) I have not found exactly where you can purchase the film yet, but as soon as I find out, I will let you guys know.

Swedish made WESC headphones are at the top of the competition when it comes to design. I hate to say it but, those all white ipod headphones have gotten played out. I have noticed that during these times, swagga jackin is "not in." WESC are the makers of some very popular street wear, and they have crashed this reputation full speed into some.....headphones! Although project options were endless, this move to give headphones that same swagger that your wardrobe has actually is working. After reading some of the comments of people who have purchased the headphones, it is hard to tell the headphones' worth. Comments varied from, "not that good!" to, "they're freakin awesome!" As far as the design goes, WESC has created something I like to call brilliant!

My brother recently sent me this video, which shows Rendell (Clinton's biggest supporter and a super delegate) speaking so highly of Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam. My brother brought up the point that when Reverend Wright (Senator Obama's pastor) does the same thing Senator Obama is forced to denounce or reject (as Senator Clinton likes to put it) support given from Farrakhan. I'm just so confused how as long as the support does not come out of Hilary's mouth that its fair game!!! Listening to brother Malcolm during this debate simply amazes me on how someone can completely master the art of speech. While receiving some very difficult questions to answer, not once did brother Malcolm show any type of emotion other then a confident grin. When confronted with questions about prejudices being inflicted on his people, Malcolm's attitude was not threatening or intimidating other than the sense that he was more knowledgeable on topics than the other gentlemen at the debate. He was able to undermine the character of anyone you challenged him. For someone to undergo a complete metamorphosis like brother Malcolm truly amazes me. He was a true subverter, overthrowing ever question presented to him in such fluent fashion. Brother Malcolm was a true class act.
